Questions before the Practical Driving Exam in Regitra

At the start of the Practical Driving Exam you will have to answer 3 questions about the car. The examiner will test your basic vehicle maintenance and safety knowledge right there in the parking lot. If you answer the questions incorrectly, you get a non-critical mistake, even though you are allowed 8 non-critical mistakes, you still want to have 0 mistakes even before you have began driving, which is why its so important to learn these questions.

2. Tell me how you will check whether the overall tyre condition is safe for driving?

I will press the Emergency Light button, check if it is flashing on the dash, then I will go outside of the car and check if they are all flashing at the same time.

With this question, you have to show where Emergency Light button is

1. Tell me how you will check if the Emergency Lights are working?

We have to visually inspect the tyre and check that the tyre has no bumps, no cracks, no foreign object stuck in the tyre and that the tread has worn evenly across all the tyres

With this question, it is important to specify that you will visually inspect the tyre, and you will not be measuring anything.

7. Tell me how will you check if the service brake is working?

We have to use a measuring tool, like a caliper, and we must measure each tyre and check that the minimum tread depth in the summer is 1.6mm (milimeters) and 3.00 in the winter.

3. Tell me how you will check whether the tyre tread depth is sufficient for safe driving?

The tank/reservoir is under the hood, it is a transparent tank with colored liquid inside and we have to check that the level is between the min and max.

4. Tell me how you will check the air pressure in the tyres?

We will use a measuring tool, in this case a monometer to check the air pressue. We will unscrew the tire valve cap and insert the measuring devide and check the air pressure.

Tip - It is important to specify that you will be using a device, a monometer.

5. Tell me where will you look for the information about the reccomened tyre pressure

We can find the information about the recomended tyre pressure on the drivers door frame sticker, on the fuel cap, or in the car manual.

Tip - It is important to specify all possible places, because some cars do not have the sticker on the door frame. Additionally, with this question you will not be measuring anything, you are just looking for the information.

6. Tell me how will you check if all the light are working and the headlight levelling control if controlled manually?

Once we start the engine we will turn every single light on one-by-one and step outside of the car and check. We will check the front of the car for: daytime running lights, low beams, high beams and fog lights, we will check the back of the car for: brake lights, reverse light, rear for lights.

To check if the headlight levelling control is working we must park next to a wall, change the angle of the lights with the button and check outside how it is changing.

Tip - It is important to show the headlight levelling control, if you car has it.

9. Tell me how will you check if indicators are working?

We must start the engine and push on the brake pedal and it should not go more than halfway, if the pedal goes down all the way then there is a problem with the service brake.

Either get a second person to help you or park next to a wall or other reflective surface, press the brake pedal and check if the both (left and right) brake lights at the back of the car turn on.

Turn on the left indicator, step out of the car and check the front and back, turn on the right indicator, step out of the car and check if front and back indicators are flashing.

The tank/reservoir is under the hood, above the brake pedals and you need to check that the level is between the min and max.

Tip - Specify that the tank is above the brake pedals.

Once you turn on the ignition all the warning lights on the dash should come on, including the ABS light, after a few seconds all these lights should turn off, if the ABS light stays on, that means there is a problem with the ABS system.

Tip - You check the ABS system by looking at the dash, not whilst driving and braking.

The windshield washing system is controlled by the lever on the right side of the steernig wheel. To wash the front windshield you have to pull the level towards yourself and wait until the water comes out, for the back windshield you push away from your self and also wait for the water to come out.

Tip - Sometimes you may be asked to show how this sytem works, so its important you listen at the begging when the examiner is telling you all of the information about the car, so you know how to do so.

The windshield washer tank/reservoir is located under the hood, it is marked usually marked by a blue cap with a symbol (window with water).
